General / Alternative Production Processes

I want to model several different process alternatives for a production process in one model. I have different machines, that produce the same product but differ for example in power usage. I want to assess what influence it has if one machine produces for example 0%, 50% or 100% of the demand and the other machine the rest. As there is another production process afterwards, I don't know the exact amount of output that is needed from the alternative processes.

The only solution for the model to calculate i have found so far, was to assign a manual flow to one machine alternative. The other machine would then be calculated automatically. However it is not possible to use percentages with manual flows.

Is there another way to do this?

I have a problem with the dynamic modelling settings and calculations and I would appreciate some help on this topic.
BUT the calculations stop after only 3 steps,I also check the option to look at all the flows and to apply the monitor epsilon conditions to all of them.

There must be something I am missing... Is there a difference between observing a stock in a place or a flow in an arrow ?

I think what is rather confusing is the error message, maybe you could add something like "... Make sure all processes are properly defined in the main net."

Dear Christian, dear community,

we already solved this problem via email, but for our community I wanted to explain the problem and the solution.

After a not complete calculation negative stocks for electricity was caused. This happend, because on the main net level not all processes could calculate completly. The main challange here was to model a model which calculate without erros. When every process with electricity in the input side is calculated, the electricity dataset can deliver the energy.


I am stuck with a problem in my current modell which I remember to have had before but forgotten how it was resolved. In a production process modell several processes use a created material electricity and a sub-net delivers the exactly same electricity material but the connection will stay with negative stocks at end of calculation (causing an error). In my current specific model another connection stays with a wastewater material instead of pushing it forward to the WWTP process...
Any help would be very appreciated. Still I did not try to delete the material and create it anew because of quite a lot of uses and because I would like to see if you know the problem.

Dear Luca,

the results of the LCIA endpoint methods are the sum of different midpoint results. Each midpoint is calculated with a weighting factor to a point impact. If you want to determine specific categories, you should use a midpoint impact category.

Hi everyone,

for a project I used the LCIA "Damage to ecosystem, ReCiPe Endpoint (E,A) w/o LT". Now I know that my impact is 0.02points. How can I translate this to something more tangible?

If I am not wrong you determine the impact of damage to ecosystem with species lost per m². Could someone clarify this and tell me what I have to do?

Hallo Rafaela,

wenn ich deine Frage richtig verstehe, dann kann man das wie folgt lösen:

im Input ist das Produktmaterial als Massenangabe, im Output ist das Produktmaterial als Massenangabe und als Unitangabe.

Je nachdem welche Fragestellung man nun beantworten will kann man
1) das Produkt mit der Einheit Unit als manuellen Fluss festlegen -> dadurch erhält man die Information wie viel Produkt als Masse produziert wird.
2) das Produkt mit der Massenangabe als manuellen Fluss festlegen -> dadurch erhält man die Information wie viele Produkte hergestellt werden.

Zur Umgehung der Allokation kann der manuelle Fluss auf 'neutral' gestellt werden. Wenn Punkt 2) berechnet werden soll, dann müssen im Input und Output die Massenmaterialien 2 unterschiedliche Materialien sein, ansonsten gibt es eine Fehlermeldung dass das Material unterschiedliche material types aufweist.

Ich hoffe deine Frage kann so beantwortet werden!

Hallo zusammen,
Kann man in Umberto LCA+ dem Produkt eine Massenangabe zuordnen, sodass das Programm automatisch die Massenangabe in eine Produktanzahl umrechnen kann?
